Just by staying focused on my diet and following a few general health tips, I‘ve managed to lose 23 pounds over the last five months, and it looks like the weight is going to keep coming off. This is the longest that I‘ve ever stayed committed to a single diet, and it’s also the most weight that I‘ve ever lost at once; I‘m pretty proud of my accomplishments.
So what have I been doing differently? It’s easier to stick to a healthier lifestyle this time because I can really feel the changes making a difference in my quality of life. I believe that this positive reinforcement will help me stay dedicated to this lifestyle for some time to come. Here are a few of the fundamental concepts that I‘ve incorporated into my new, healthy lifestyle.
To begin with, I‘ve cut artificial sugars out of my diet completely. Cane sugar is off-limits as well, so the only sugar I‘m eating is coming from fruits and vegetables.
High fructose corn syrup is first on the list of sweeteners that I make sure to avoid. Many believe that this substance can lead to weight gain as well as diabetes.
You might think that cutting out this ingredient would be easy, but take a look at the nutrition labels on the foods in your home to make sure. It can even be found in bread and ketchup.
Exercising regularly has also helped me stick with my diet. It took some time for my body to adjust to the frequency, but I now run five days a week and striving to run longer distances in shorter times. Aside from the obvious benefit of burning calories, running also keeps me feeling great.
Third, I‘ve stopped drinking diet sodas completely. I‘ve researched the subject myself, and I‘ve come to believe that these soft drinks, despite containing no calories, may still cause people to gain weight.
It’s believed that the sweeteners are diet sodas actually fool your brain into thinking that you’ve just consumed a large quantity of sugar. When this happens, it causes your body to store fat in the same way that it does after a large intake of sugar. It’s always a good bet to choose a glass of water over a diet soda, even if it seems to be harmless.
