Appetizers are small finger foods that are normally served at parties or before a more formal meal. You may find them at weddings, baby showers, and banquets. Appetizers help people take the edge off of their hunger and help them relax. It is always easier to relax when you can enjoy some refreshments.
You may also want to serve them at parties that last a long time after the meal has finished. Afternoon parties are a great time for them too. Think of the tea parties that were often given in Victorian times… tea was always accompanied by small sandwiches or cookies. One of the best times to serve appetizers is when your guests are consuming alcohol. Food will help prevent the body from absorbing too much alcohol in a short time. Of course, you can also have them to begin a meal, as well.
Almost anything can be served as appetizers. You may like simple cheese and crackers. Setting out platters containing small cubes of a variety of cheeses is always enjoyable fare. Another really simple thing is chopped vegetables, also known as crudits. These are most frequently served with a dip. You can also serve sliced fruit in this manner. Finger sandwiches, also known as canaps are another simple appetizer.
If you want to spend a little more preparation time, you can make easy appetizers like stuffed mushrooms, shrimp, or crab puffs. These delicacies are wonderful and easy to eat with just a napkin. You should be cautious about ingredients however, especially if you have guests with food allergies. Common food allergies include peanuts and shellfish. If you are not sure, you can always ask your guests if they have any special dietary requirements. Any dishes that contain these items should be labeled so guests can avoid them if needed.
Many parties offer both hot and cold appetizers. Hungry guests find hot food more filling and satisfying than cold foods in most instances. If your guests have been dancing or active, they will appreciate having some food to nibble on.
Some of the fun with appetizers is coming up with inventive methods to present them. Bacon wrapped shrimp, for example, can be served by putting each individual shrimp onto a small fork and setting them so they stand up for easy access. Your guests can help themselves and eat their bite easily. Lots of different appetizers can be served this way or in spoons. A spoonful of coconut chicken is delightful.
Of course, Thanksgiving appetizers help your guests bide their time until the main meal is ready. Finger foods are fun for all ages and make people happy. Put some on your next holiday menu and see if not everyone enjoys them.
You can do so many creative things with them. If you enjoy making them, perhaps your next party will only offer appetizers for your guests. They are a simple way to provide sustenance to your guests. Kids of all ages love them. Make your recipes as snacks to see if you like them. Once they have passed your muster, you can serve them at your next occasion.
Easy party appetizers are a great way to feed party guests. You don’t need to worry about a sit down meal or setting the table. Just place several platters of appetizers where they are easily accessible and let your guests graze. Be sure you have plenty on hand to refill the platters as they empty.
